. . . but tennis teams find the going tough

after finishing seventh and ninth in the round robin stages of the boys and girls Under-15 and Under-17 tournament.
The team finished on 48 points overall after the Under-15s won 46-2 against Limpopo province before going down 11-37 to Gauteng East province. Having lost 30-18 to Border Province, the team needed a win to finish in the bottom eight but after another defeat they were now fighting for positions 8-16. However, St John’s College sports director, Nesbert Chireva, was happy with the teams overall performance in the tour and expects a better outing next time.
“The tournament was played in a round-robin format. For the first round, the top two winners in each group went through to the top eight and the bottom two went into the bottom eight of the knockout stage.
“Three points were awarded for a singles win, a point for doublesand another point for mixed doubles. This amounted to 48 points per match,” said Chiriva.
