Butterphly heads for Byo homecoming party

Showbiz Reporter
FORMER Big Brother Africa (BBA) Hotshot housemate and radio personality Butterphly (real name Tariro Mharapara) is heading to Bulawayo on Saturday for a homecoming party.

The party, being held at Club Forty40, will see Butterphly mingling with her fans who never got the opportunity to see her after the reality show in December last year.

The PowerFM DJ will also take to the decks for an hour slot.

“This will be my first time to perform in Bulawayo and I’m so excited. I’d have come there earlier, soon after BBA, but I couldn’t do so as I didn’t have contacts there till last week when I got a call from the Club Forty40 guys.

“I’m hoping to establish a fan base and have more contacts in Bulawayo,” Butterphly said.

The hotshot will share the Bulawayo decks with Club Forty40 resident DJs, Mzoe, Theo and Humble Kid.

Asked what she had been up to after her BBA stint which saw her making it to the finals, Butterphly said she was concentrating on her deejaying career.

“I’ve just been concentrating more on the radio side of things. The Bulawayo show will be my first gig of the year.”

She said things were slowly starting to shape up as she has clinched endorsement deals with various brands including Black Opal.

“I haven’t clinched a lot of deals but I’ve an endorsement deal with Black Opal,” she said.

The mother of two added that the BBA experience had made her famous back home as she is now recognised by many.

“There’s is nothing as interesting as walking into a supermarket and having people recognise you. Some come up and chat with me and ask to take pictures.”

Asked if she was still in touch with fellow Hotshot housemates, Butterphly said plans were underway to have some of them visit Zimbabwe.

“We still talk and share our struggles with other housemates. Mr 265 and Mathias actually want to come this side but we’re just waiting for the right opportunity for them to come,” she said.

Last year’s BBA edition is believed to have been one of the most boring as the housemates failed to entertain viewers – with some preferring Big Brother Mzansi. While other previous housemates have gone to launch their careers after the fame from BBA, most of last year’s housemates have failed to benefit from the same platform.

However, runner up, Tayo (Nigeria) is one of the few who benefitted as he has been supported by corporates in Nigeria with some splashing him with money after claiming that he was meant to be the BBA Hotshots winner. Tanzania’s Idris was named the BBA Hotshot and walked away with $300,000.
