THE three-day Buy Local Summit kicks off in Victoria Falls today. The conference, which is in its 5th year running, is being organised by Buy Zimbabwe, an initiative that seeks to promote the usage and procurement of locally manufactured products.

According to a programme released by the organisers, the first session of the conference would set the tone and provide direction and guidance of the deliberations and stimulate the agenda items.

It is also hoped that the summit would allow discussants to take stock of the key economic enablers of the economy. “The second session of the conference marks the beginning of the discussions on the topics of the indaba. This session will look into the structural economic enablers of the economy, their current state; constraints and what can be the way forward to resolve their deficiencies.

“The session will primarily consider how Zimbabwe can leverage on the growth of the Information Communication Technology sector for accelerated growth in the context of the major policy and business developments happening in that sector. We’re expecting a paper from Econet Wireless that will give empirical evidence on the growth of the sector and potential growth and the desired supporting policy framework.

“NetOne will be invited to give a panel intervention,” said Buy Zimbabwe in a statement.

It said Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services Supa Mandiwanzira was expected to give a policy position and its desired outcome while Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Obert Mpofu would speak on the state of infrastructure in Zimbabwe and structure of enhancement.

Discussions during the conference will also be centred on sustained economic stabilisation and recovery; policy credibility, coherence in the mining industry as well as managing the country’s current account– options available.
