THE Buy Zimbabwe Campaign has awarded Bulawayo companies certificates of recognition for remaining viable despite the economic hardships.Handing over the certificates on Thursday, Buy Zimbabwe business development officer, Alois Burutsa, said city firms deserved honour for their commitment to producing for the country under harsh conditions.
“Bulawayo has been labelled a dying city with industry seen as no longer functional. This is a wrong perception because we still have companies that are still producing,” said Burutsa.
“We appreciate companies that have survived the economic hardships and still continue to provide services and goods. We also have the Small to Medium Enterprises or the upcoming businesses. We’re also appreciating the media as it plays a tremendous role with regards to promoting local businesses. Finally we’ve marketing companies,” he said.
National Blankets, Tregers, Datlabs, Pretoria Portland Cement Zimbabwe, National Foods, Zimplow, Lobels Bread, Lobels Biscuits and Archer Clothing received the long surviving companies’ certificates.
Heavenly Rose, Impala and New Era Adventures got certificates for small to medium enterprises.
The Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC), The Chronicle, Southern Eye, The Sunday News and The Zimbabwe Mail were given appreciation certificates in the media sector.
Market force was given a certificate in the marketing sector.
Buy Zimbabwe held a weeklong campaign last week aimed at sensitising consumers on the importance of buying and consuming locally produced goods.
The campaign was supported by many local companies and residents from different suburbs who came in large numbers to participate in the meetings.
