A Gold buyer was last week attacked by 15 armed robbers who broke into his house and overpowered the occupants before stealing seven grams of the precious metal and US$650 cash.
Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the case. He said Aaron Murota, a buyer employed by a registered gold buyer Moreblessing Masarirambi, was in the company of Thomas Mutsvunguma, when robbers broke into their cabin in the Tsvingwe suburb of Penhalonga.
“On February 20, 2026, around 10 pm the complainant retired to bed in a wooden cabin which they use for shelter when buying gold at house number 792 Tsvingwe Medium Density, Penhalonga.
“He ensured that the door of the cabin was locked from inside. He was in the company of Thomas, who is also employed by Masarirambi as a gold buyer. On February 21, 2026, at around 2 am, the two were awakened by the sound of the door of their cabin being banged.
“During that period, about 15 unidentified male adults who were wielding machetes, logs and catapults forced their entry into the cabin.
“The complainant screamed for help and in the process Mutsvunguma managed to escape leaving Murota behind.
“The accused persons took turns to assault Murota with machetes whilst demanding cash at the same time searching for valuables in the cabin.”
