Byo baseball team begin preps

THE Bulawayo provincial baseball team has begun preparations for the annual Dream Cup tournament to be hosted by Masvingo province in December.

The tournament will be held from December 8-9 and will feature eight provinces.

At the time the men’s teams will be tussling for honours in Masvingo, women teams will be battling for the Dream Cup in Harare.

Bulawayo are the defending champions in the women’s tournament and will be hoping to retain their title in the capital. The men were third at last year’s edition of the tournament.

After an impressive 2-1 series victory over Harare province two weeks ago, Bulawayo go into the tournament with their confidence levels up.

“We have started training and everyone is in high spirits ahead of the competition. We just came from a successful series win over a good Harare side and we will be hoping to carry that fine form into the tournament. It is going to be a tough tournament but we are confident of doing well,” said senior player Eldon Mudzingwa.

Japanese coach Naoki Taniyama, who assisted in coaching the team during the series against Harare province, will work with the team ahead of the tournament. — @innocentskizoe.
