A MINING indaba will be held in Bulawayo today focusing on socio-economic opportunities and challenges facing the sector. The two-day event, dubbed “Zimbabwe Alternative Mining Indaba (ZAMI)”, will bring together policy makers, mining experts and representatives from mining communities among others.The meeting, to be held at a city hotel, is being organised by the Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (ZELA), Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) and Zimbabwe Coalition on Debt and Development (ZIMCODD), under the theme “Creating shared value in the mining sector through engagement with people, business and government”.
Topics for discussion will border around business and human rights, local enterprise development, artisanal and small scale mining, the experiences of Community Share Ownership Trust/Schemes and environmental management issues among others.
“The 2015 indaba is being held with a view to create dialogue, engagement and shared commitment towards reform in the mining sector so as to ensure positive and inclusive development outcomes,” the organisers said in a statement yesterday.
