THE Bulawayo Pool Association (BPA) will next week embark on a scouting mission to identify Under-20 players to represent the province at the Zimbabwe National Youth Games set for August in Chinhoyi.
BPA chairman Tendai Charuka said they don’t want to be caught off-guard and would be sending top players and coaches to identify players for the National Youth Games.
“Our national association has been lobbying for pool to be incorporated into the National Youth Games’ programme and as such, BPA will next week dispatch coaches to identify players that will form our Under-20 provincial team. Our belief is that for pool to develop, we need to have solid structures like the grassroots,” said Charuka.
“There is nothing wrong with having the sport introduced even in schools. The government through the Ministry of Sport and Recreation is serious about pool, which is growing fast and we even saw the minister (Makhosini Hlongwane) playing the sport at their ZITF stand in April.”
He said they were hoping pool will be included at this year’s National Youth Games just like darts.
Meanwhile, BPA action continues this weekend with league games set for tomorrow. Clubs will compete in the Bulawayo Pool Cup on Sunday.
