THE race for the Bulawayo Province Pool Association (BPPA) Cup crown enters its decisive stage this Sunday when the competition’s remaining four teams battle for places in the grand finale at Pata Pata.
Pool enthusiasts are set for an afternoon of high-stakes action as QPA, Premier, WestComm and Mqombothi lock horns in what promises to be a fiercely contested semi-final programme.
The official draw is scheduled for 1.30pm, with the semi-final matches getting underway at 2pm.
QPA, who ply their trade in the Premier League, will be among the teams expected to attract plenty of attention as they chase a place in the final. They will be joined by fellow Premier League side Premier, setting up the possibility of an all-Premier League final.
However, WestComm of Mzilikazi and Mqombothi of Reigate will have other ideas and will be determined to upset the established order.
For WestComm and Mqombothi, Sunday’s semi-finals represent an opportunity to make a statement against Premier League opposition and book their places in the biggest match of the tournament.
With the draw taking place shortly before the matches, anticipation is expected to build at Pata Pata as players, teams and supporters discover the semi-final pairings.
The BPPA Cup has provided plenty of competitive pool action, and with only four teams remaining, there is now no room for error.
A place in the grand final is at stake, meaning every frame, every tactical decision and every moment of composure could prove decisive.
The league’s fixtures secretary Kuda Shoko has also urged pool lovers to come out in their numbers and rally behind their favourite teams.
Shoko said the support of pool enthusiasts would add to the atmosphere and give the players an extra push as they battle for a place in the final.
“We are calling upon all pool fans to come and support their favourite teams. These are the semi-finals, so we expect a good turnout and a good atmosphere at Pata Pata.
The players have worked hard to reach this stage and they deserve the support of the fans,” said Shoko.
He added that the association was looking forward to an exciting afternoon of competitive pool as the tournament moves towards its climax.
With only two places in the grand final up for grabs, Sunday’s action promises to provide plenty of drama, skill and tension.
Pool enthusiasts have therefore been encouraged to make their way to Pata Pata and witness the country’s pool talent battling for one of the biggest prizes on the BPPA calendar.
