Memorial Tournament set for Glamis Arena at the Harare Exhibition Centre.
Organisers of the memorial bill had to make the Maphosa-Madziwana fight the main bout after the former national super bantamweight champion Misheck Kondwani withdrew as he is scheduled to fight in Zambia on the 18th of this month.
Kondwani was supposed to fight Dumezweni Ntuliki for the lightweight title. Ndlovu said they received communication that Maphosa who had been scheduled to feature for a non-title fight would now compete in a 12-round match.
He said they were now hoping to get Ntuliki a non-title fight.
“Like I said before, all my boxers are in good shape ready to fight. They can even fight tomorrow and put a brilliant performance. They have been training hard since last year and when the time came for them to prepare for the Gilbert Josamu Memorial Tournament they just had to work on a few things.
“Even at such short notice Maphosa can compete for the title because he had been doing sparring with Ntuliki. I can safely say he is ready for the ring,” Ndlovu said.
If Ntuliki manages to get an opponent, it means he will join Maphosa and Martin Tshuma for the Harare trip.
Tshuma is set to trade leather with Silas Mandeya in the junior welterweight.
Ndlovu said they were disappointed that Ntuliki’s fight has been scrapped.
The other fights lined up for the Gilbert Josamu Memorial Tournament include the Ronnie Tamani-Lynos Murabwa featherweight bout, the super bantamweight contest between Batanai Ruwizhu and Benstrein Mateu and the super featherweight bout where Tawanda Kachigwada will trade leather with Trymore Musira.
