BULAWAYO will come alive this weekend when it hosts the World Music Day commemorations at the Bulawayo Centre on Saturday. The celebrations will be held in the city for the second time with organisers expecting numerous artistes to perform. As part of the commemorations, Alliance Française have organised a Fête de la Musique. The fête, also known as the Worldwide Celebration of Music, will be open to all artistes including amateurs and professional musicians who are willing to perform.
Groups expected to perform at the fete are Simunye Simunye, DeepSoul, Oneness, Founders High School Choir, Willy T (Nust), DJs Hangout, Bigger than Hip Hop, Thandi Dhlana, Stango, Ramsey Kays and the Big Rays band, Junior Umfolozi, HardRoom 92 and Rainbow Blaze.
One of the Bigger than Hip Hop group members, POY said he was pleased as performing at the celebrations would result in recognition of his music which had long been overlooked.
A statement released by Alliance Française said the music day was going to allow artistes to express all styles of music in a cheerful atmosphere.
“The World Music Day gives an opportunity for musicians to communicate and share a very special moment through music.
“It is aimed at a large audience working to popularise musical practice for young and not so young people from all social backgrounds,” read part of the statement.
