A NATIONAL boxing tournament organised by Zimbabwe Boxing Federation (ZBF) will be held next weekend at Bulawayo’s Sizinda South Beer Garden where a pool of local pugilists drawn from all over the country are expected to take part.
According to ZBF technical director Steven Masiyambumbi the boxing fiesta which is meant to help coaches select a squad that will represent the country at the forthcoming All Africa Games in Morocco in August would start at 3pm.
“We hope all the participants will get the much needed exposure. As a federation we are working hard to have our boxers take part in many local and international tournaments. We are getting the boxers geared up for the All Africa Games that are going to be held in Morocco,” said Masiyambumbi.
It being an open tournament Masiyambumbi said they were expecting to have 150 boxers that would trade leather representing their respective provinces at Sizinda South Beer Garden.
“This is also an opportunity for the provinces to prepare the youth boxers since we are also having our national youth games in Gweru this year,” he said.
He added that wrestling was also going to be part of the event where more than five fights would be witnessed.
