ensure safety when transporting passengers.
CAAZ chief executive, Mr David Chawota, called for unity among Sadc countries, adding spirit of togetherness was critical to any progressive continent. He was speaking during a graduation ceremony of 26 CAAZ security officers at Shamva support unit camp. Among the graduates was a Swaziland national, Mr Cyprian Sabelo Sikhondze, who won the most disciplined trainee award.
“Discipline is key when representing one’s nation. We have a Swaziland national among our graduates representing his country. He will go back and train others.
“I would like to congratulate him for remaining disciplined during the course of training as discipline is key to the success of any organisation,” he said.
Mr Chawota added: “We are working with several Sadc nations that signed the Sadc protocol on transport and assisting each other in coming up with standards when it comes to safeguarding people’s aviation safety when travelling,” he said.
Police Assistant Commissioner Orbert Benge, said it required discipline, determination and patience for one to reach such great heights.
Asst Com Benge urged the graduates to fully make use of the knowledge they acquired for the benefit of their respective countries.
“CAAZ and Support Unit boast of a mutual and collaborative friendship, which has been continually enforced by increased success in respective areas of responsibility.
“It is for this reason that I encourage you to be of unquestionable integrity and dedication,” he said.
The 26 security officers, who underwent a one month training programme, completed a series of subjects, which include the history of Zimbabwe, human rights and use of force and firearms, weapon handling among others. Asst Com Benge said the courses were tailored in a manner that would produce officers capable of taking up the challenging role of aviation security officers.
He encouraged the graduates to acquaint themselves with the changes of the modern world and not to be overtaken by events.
Juliet Wita was the best student while Pauline Chibaya took best female shootist award. The best male shootist award went to Bright Dumba.
