SPORT and Recreation Commission (SRC) director general Charles Nhemachena is today expected to officially open the Caf A licence Part Two coaching course at the Zifa Village in Mount Hampden in Harare.
The course is part of the national motherbody’s thrust to have local coaches become some of the highest qualified on the continent and 29 high profile coaches have been in attendance since Monday.
Xolisani Gwesela Zifa’s communications manager said that the coaching course is in line with Caf licensing regulations.
“It is now under Caf regulations that every coach who will sit on the bench for a team should be a valid holder of the Caf A licence coaching certificate,” said Gwesela.
This is the second phase of the coaching course after a successful first stage conducted at the same venue from June 30 to July 13 this year.
Notable participating coaches among the 29 are former Highlanders gaffer Rahman Gumbo, Dynamos head coach Kalisto Pasuwa, ex-Harare City coach Bigboy Mawiwi, Jairos Tapera, Nation Dube from Hwange and Zifa technical director Maxwell Takaendesa.
Highlanders’ Kelvin Kaindu is the only coach in Zimbabwe who holds the Caf A Licence qualification.
Gwesela said that Caf accredited facilitators, Dominique Niyonzima from Burundi and veteran Zimbabwean coach Gibson Homela are conducting the lessons.
Zimbabwe joins Zambia, Ghana, Sudan, Namibia and South Africa on the list of countries that have held the Caf A Licence programme.
