CAF fines Egypt over post-match incident against Zimbabwe

CAF has fined Egypt for failing to speak to the media after their opening match against Zimbabwe at AFCON 2025.

The Pharaohs have been fined US$5,000 for the offence and warned not to repeat the same mistake against South Africa later today.

CAF confirmed that the sanction was imposed after Egypt’s players and technical staff failed to fulfil mandatory media duties in the mixed zone following the final whistle. The entire Egyptian delegation walked past journalists without stopping to respond to post-match questions, a clear breach of the competition’s media regulations.

CAF further issued a strong warning to the seven-time African champions, stressing that stricter sanctions will be enforced if the situation is repeated.

The governing body specifically cautioned that harsher measures could follow should Egypt again fail to engage with the media after their Matchday 2 encounter against South Africa.
