Cal_Vin “retires”

AWARD-winning Hip hop sensation Cal_Vin says his forthcoming fifth album – Planet Vin will be his last as he will be focusing on promoting his music for the next two years.

Cal_Vin, who this year won the Album of the year, Song of the Year and Best Male Artiste at the Zim Hip hop Awards, said the album launch at Elite 400 on August 13 would mark the beginning of his national tour where he plans to perform in Gweru, Kwekwe, Hwange, Victoria Falls, Zvishavane and Harare.

“That Luveve Boy” as Cal_Vin is known said he was temporarily retiring because he feels his music has flooded the market.

“I think I’ve saturated the market with my music and it’s time for me to start promoting it. I’ll be concentrating on that for the next two years,” said Cal_Vin.

He said his next album would likely be launched in 2018.

But while on “retirement”, Cal_Vin will continue promoting artistes –Mawiza, Frost, GTi, Jungle Boy and Crystalline who are all under his Voltface Records stable.

The artiste, who recently resolved his differences with fellow hip hop artiste – Jnr Brown – also wants to use the break to produce music videos for his popular songs such as Bebengakholwa, Z’khuphani remix ft. Cassper Nyovest and My Life from the up and coming album.

Cal_Vin has worked with various corporates with their activations and appealed to them to chip in and assist him to make his album launch a success.

“I’m appealing to sponsors to help me as I’m funding this concert alone so far. I think we can meet half way and make the launch a success,” said Cal_Vin.

Considered a threat by most Harare rappers, Cal_Vin started making his own beats in 2004 and is heavily influenced by American rappers, Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Lil Wayne and Tupac.
