THE Minister of State for Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs, Cde Richard Moyo, has said it was important that development partners complement Government efforts in curbing the spread of Covid-19 by assisting vulnerable groups in communities.
Officiating at a handover ceremony of goods donated by a Norwegian- funded organisation, Sabona Trust at Dopota Primary School in Mabale area in Hwange District yesterday, Cde Moyo said the fight against the scourge required concerted efforts by all stakeholders.
“It is indeed a great thing to work hand in hand and collaborate with each other in making sure that the elderly and the vulnerable members of the community are taken care of and I am glad to witness this today. Covid-19 has changed the way we interact with each other around Zimbabwe and around the world, it is no longer business as usual. As partners in development, we should strive to work together and complement each other.”
Sabona Trust donated 100 blankets and 130 bags of 10-kilogramme maize meal to the most vulnerable elders and hand-washing detergents, sanitisers and infrared thermometers to schools in the area namely Dopota, Mabale Lupote, Nechibili and Siyanyanga primary schools as well as Mabale and Lupote clinics. Cde Moyo applauded Sabona Trust for its unwavering role in carrying out a number of developmental projects in the province over the years.
Speaking at the same occasion Sabona Trust chairperson Mrs Sailota Chagadama said the organisation was driven to donate goods to the elderly and children in light of the plight they might be facing due to the pandemic.
“We know that the elders have a number of self-help projects that assist them to better their livelihoods but we come in to journey in with them to realise whatever potential they have. With the advent of Covid-19 you will realise that it has affected their way of life and how they obtain their income thus the need to give them material support,” she said.
