adminYOUTH organisation Zimbabwe Youths in Tourism is calling on the incoming government to establish a fund to assist young people involved in the sector. ZYT national chairman Mr Stewart Mtizwa told New Ziana that there was also need for the incoming government to take deliberate moves to promote participation of youths in the tourism and hospitality industry.
He said youths involved in tourism were finding it difficult to establish a foothold in the industry due to lack of funds.
“We hope that the incoming Zanu-PF government will establish a fund that will be accessed by youths in tourism because our operations are mainly being hamstrung by inability to access funds,” he said.
“We hope that the new government will also carry forward with some of the positive policies that were being pursued over the past four years as they have assisted the tourism industry register remarkable recovery and growth.”
He said some of the policies that youths in tourism wanted to continue included the duty free importation of goods and vehicles used in the industry.
Mr Mtizwa said this would assist the youths and the industry as a whole to expand.
Meanwhile, Mr Mtizwa said youths in tourism were preparing for the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) general assembly that Zimbabwe will co-host with Zambia from 24 to 29 August.
“We are preparing and we are always on the lookout for opportunities that we can exploit during this period as we are moving towards the historic event,” he said.
As Zimbabwe prepares to host the historic event it has done a host of preparatory work in the resort town of Victoria Falls to ensure it runs smoothly.
The event is expected to endorse Zimbabwe as a leading tourism destination. – New Ziana
