MASHONALAND Central has called for an improvement in connectivity as most rural areas are lagging behind in development as a result of being shut out of current affairs.
Speaking in Mbire last week, Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs Advocate Martin Dinha said there was virtually no network and radio coverage in the constituency.
“People here have no access to electronic media coverage such as ZBC,” he said. “There is virtually no mobile networks here. Our First Lady, Amai Mnangagwa, was here recently and she first hand had experience of staying out of touch with the rest of the world because of no network connectivity.
“The majority of the people have access to pirate radio stations like Studio 7 and Mozambican stations. There is need to ensure that all radio stations are accessible here.”
Vice President Kembo Mohadi said the new dispensation meant business and all these challenges would be swiftly addressed.
“We will ask Cde Supa Mandiwanzira (ICT Minister) to see to it that this district has more base stations so that the communication challenges are addressed,” said VP Mohadi.
