Calls for lasting solution to gravel extraction in Warren Park

The City of Harare should come up with a solution to the extraction of gravel in Warren Park, as some people are now digging close to water reservoirs, Mayor Jacob Mafume has said.

Communicating to councillors at the 1942nd Ordinary council meeting recenlty, Cllr Mafume said there is a risk of mudslides and children drowning.

“I met with the Warren Park Association, which is worried about some wetlands and the extraction of gravel,” he said.

“I thought we put a stop to it, but we did not. We must come up with a solution. There’s a risk of mudslides there, children drowning and it has created an ugly environment.

“Some of the people are digging close to our water reservoir and it’s a ticking time bomb which we should take care of.”
