Giving evidence to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Education, Sports, Arts and Culture, the supporters’ representative alleged that Dube lent Zifa $7 070 (receipt number 18806) on 8 February 2010 which was said to be payment for the 10 provinces’ subscriptions, way before the 27 March 2010 elections.
With more than 98 players and officials having been suspended by the Dube-led Zifa board over mere allegations, some of the suspension victims have also called on Dube to do the honourable thing and step down from office to allow investigations to be carried out smoothly.
Besides the players, Zifa board members, Gift Banda, the Southern Region chairman and his Central Region counterpart Patrick Hokonya, Zimbabwe Referees Committee vice president Samukeliso Silengane, her boss and Zifa vice president Kenny Marange, board member development Methembe Ndlovu and Warriors’ coach Norman Mapeza are all on suspension as a result of allegations levelled against them.
“He should just do the noble thing and step down on his own because unlike us, he is the head of Zifa,” said one of the suspended councillors.
Supporters association vice president Eddie Chivero supported calls for Dube to step down so that investigations can be carried out.
“Dube should just pave way for the investigations like everybody else. We are happy with what he started. We are not after him but he is the one who started it by insisting that those accused of any wrong doing should pave way for investigations and the arrow has now pointed at him,” said Chivero.
The former Under -20 manager said they were even prepared to go as far as Fifa if Dube did not step down from office as it will be clear that the law is being applied selectively.
“We have people that participated in some of the games but were not suspended.
“For example Zimbabwe Soccer Coaches Association Bheki Nyoni went as the head of delegation when Mapeza was the head coach but only Mapeza was suspended, why? Because Nyoni votes and Mapeza does not,” said Chivero.
Dube beat former Premier Soccer League and Dynamos secretary general Leslie Gwindi and Charlie Jones to the post of Zifa president.
Dube could not be contacted for comment yesterday as he was said to be attending a board meeting.
His secretary asked for the questions to be e-mailed but by late yesterday no response had been received.
Contacted for comment, Zifa vice president, who headed the investigations committee said;
“If there is any merit to the allegations by the so called supporters committee made to the Parliamentary Portfolio committee then a proper and legitimate committee must be set up to
investigate those allegations then action can be taken.”
He said the Sport and Recreation Commission, as the instigators of the Asiagate scandal, can do the same with the latest allegations, if ever there is merit.
Efforts to contact the acting SRC director general, Joseph Muchechetere were fruitless as his mobile phone went unanswered last night.
