Harare Metropolitan Province Minister Charles Tawengwa has launched the ‘Own your doorstep campaign’ aimed at ensuring that the capital city regains its former glory.

The initiative is being implemented by the Government in partnership with various stakeholders.

Speaking during the launch, Minister Tawengwa said the campaign will go beyond the SADC Summit.

“We have to keep our city clean.  Whenever we have visitors, be it at our homes, there is no way one would not put his or her place in order, that is our culture.

“As Zimbabweans, we are well known globally as a friendly people. We cannot neglect the Harare Metropolitan Province. We have to market it, hence the need to beautify it.”

Minister Tawengwa urged various stakeholders to get involved in the ‘Own your doorstep’ campaign.

“By way of Public Private Partnerships and corporate social responsibility, we are inviting businesses, industry, commerce and individuals to adopt street pavements, and embark on cleaning and greening initiatives as we instill pride in our capital city, the pulse of the nation,” he said.

“By taking ownership of the frontal areas of our business premises, the business community will help to manage litter, beautify and maintain the city creatively and enhance its image.”
