DYNAMOS might be keeping a low profile in the transfer razzmatazz sweeping across the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League but the Harare giants have, in fact, one of the best strikers on land in the last decade — Moses Demera.
The 31-year-old former ZPC Kariba forward was one of the first players to sign for the Glamour Boys along with ex-GreenFuel defender Collin Mujuru and winger Witness Shave who crossed from Triangle.
At face value, Demera’s arrival at the Glamour Boys looks ordinary for a team, widely seen as lacking in financial resources to attract the high-profile figures.
But a closer look at his stats reveals that Demera has been the most consistent attacker in the local league with his cumulative figures ruling the roost.
He may not be the kind of player who draws headlines especially after spending most of his time playing for fringe clubs like ZPC Kariba and relegated Yadah Stars, but he has been a regular scorer wherever he has played.
His numbers have always been up there, scoring goals and always closer to the top of the pile almost every season.
He is that man who scored 13 goals in 2023 but never got to be recognised as the joint top scorer in the league with Ngezi Platinum’s Takunda Benhura.
Back then, Demera was playing for ZPC Kariba, and his goals played a key role in saving the electricity men’s Premiership status.
Demera was however, not recognised either as the league’s joint top scorer or as one of the best players that season on the Soccer Stars calendar.
Ngezi Platinum Stars were quick to snatch him up for the term that followed, where he outscored Benhura after registering four goals despite spending most of the year side-lined by an injury.
He is also not the kind of fancy player, and he was back to ZPC Kariba last season where he scored seven goals in just 15 appearances. Before the past three seasons, Demera had scored 31 goals across as many terms for ZPC Kariba and Black Rhinos.
That takes his tally to 55 goals in the past six seasons, making him the best striker in the period under review, with only Obriel Chirinda, on 39 coming closer.
Now the question among the Dynamos faithful is where the team could benefit from Demera’s consistency going into the 2026 season after enduring a punishing 2025 where they only survived relegation on the final day of the marathon.
Coach Genesis Mangombe who shone brightly when saving Triangle from what had looked like a certain doomsday season last year thinks Demera could fix things up for the Glamour Boys.
Goal-scoring has been the main problem area for the most successful team in the country over the past five years with their top scorers averaging just five goals per season.
“I think a player like Demera can help the team get the goals in a consistent manner,” said Mangombe.
“He is a proven goal scorer who always comes to the party at every team that he plays for. He has scored goals everywhere. I think he is one of the best strikers in Zimbabwe and has been a top forward over the years.
“I hope he will step to the plate for Dynamos given the profile of the club, but I know he is an experienced guy who can score and also assist.”
Demera knows the challenge will be different at Dynamos but reckons he has gathered enough experience to navigate the terrain.
