THE teenage cancer-stricken girl who was the front page of this today’s edition of H-Metro, after she penned a letter about her death, has DIED.
Shalom Onoja, 14, a former Nettleton Junior School student, died at Parirenyatwa Hospital early this morning.
In one of the letters, Shalom described how she wanted her funeral to conducted, including the clothes which should be used to cloth her body, as they put her to rest.
Her family promised to honour her wishes.
She had her right leg amputated in South Africa after a long battle with cancer.
Shalom’s stepfather, Joe Phiri, announced her death.
“Family and friends, our precious daughter, Shalom, went to be with the Lord this morning.
“We are devastated and heartbroken. We thank everyone for your love, prayers, and support during this painful time.
“In her final moments, she left us a letter with her wishes for her funeral. “She requested that we all celebrate her life and remember her smile, not her pain.
“As a family, we will respect and honour all of her wishes fully. Some of the memories we will cherish forever are her beautiful smile, her kind heart, and the joy and light she brought into our home and to everyone who knew her.
“We will remember her laughter, her love, and her spirit.”
Her mother, Ndakadaishe Nyaradzo Shumba, thanked all who supported them during trying times.
She said funeral arrangements are being finalised according to her wishes and will be shared soon.
