Cape Town theatre this week celebrates young talent and bold storytelling

The Tygerberg Children’s Choir is one of South Africa’s most established youth choirs, with a long history of developing young voices and shaping them into confident, skilled performers.

Over the years, the choir has built a strong reputation for musical excellence, bringing together children from diverse backgrounds to perform a wide range of choral music.

Their upcoming gala concert celebrates this journey through a programme that blends South African compositions by Franco Prinsloo, Anton Esterhuyse, Charlotte Botha, Marthie Driessen and Michael Barrett with international choral works.

Sacred pieces by composers such as Egil Hovland, J. Handl (Gallus) and Darius Lim add depth and reflection to the performance.

With powerful harmonies, discipline and youthful energy, the choir continues to honour its legacy while inviting audiences to enjoy the sound and spirit of true choral artistry.

Broadway Baby

JDB Dance is set to light up the stage with “Broadway Baby”, a vibrant dance showcase celebrating the music, characters and unforgettable moments of Broadway’s most beloved productions.

Featuring performers aged five through to senior students, the production blends ballet, jazz, lyrical and contemporary dance to bring musical theatre magic to life.

Audiences can look forward to routines inspired by hit shows including “Matilda”, “Mean Girls”, “The Sound of Music”, “Phantom of the Opera”, “A Chorus Line” and more.

Adding to the fun, guests are encouraged to dress up in theatre-inspired outfits and become part of the Broadway experience.

Die Potplant: ’n Tragedie – The Potted Plant: A Tragedy

“Die Potplant: ’n Tragedie” is a cabaret comedy-drama about a lonely office lobby potplant that secretly longs for more than decoration duty. While plants are meant to bring beauty and joy, this one feels stuck, bored and a little forgotten.

Through humour, song and imagination, she escapes her dull surroundings and reveals hidden dreams. Other characters enter the story, adding comic commentary and playful layers. The production explores themes of isolation and expression. – iolnews
