CAPS UNITED have found another Mushekwi!
Nyasha Mushekwi’s younger brother Ishmael is training with Makepekepe, hoping to impress coach Lloyd Chitembwe who is about to finalise his 2018 squad.
The 20-year-old Mushekwi, who also plays as a striker, is however not part of the Caps United team that plays Highlanders in the Kembo Mohadi Cup at Barbourfields this afternoon.
The match kicks off at 3PM.
Mushekwi Jr is aiming to emulate his brother Nyasha who won the 2009 Golden Boot after scoring 21 goals for Caps United before moving to Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa in 2010.
Nyasha Mushekwi went on to play in Belgium and Sweden before settling at newly promoted Chinese Super League side Dalian Yifang.
“My brother Nyasha is a magnificent player who inspires me to do great things but one thing for sure is that his shoes are too big to fill.
“I have to be Ishmael and achieve my own goals,” said Ishmael.
“I have noticed people talk but they don’t understand where I come from and how it has been for me literally.
“They think I get everything on a silver platter in terms of life because Nyasha is in China.
“The truth is Nyasha believes in empowering someone who is doing something,” he said.
Interestingly, Ishmael is also a business entrepreneur. He started his juice making company in 2012.
“I have a passion for both football and business and I am happy that the business I started from a kitchen has been on the rise,” he said.
“People are always saying you are business minded and you are a talented football player, shouldn’t you just concentrate on your business side and stop playing football?
“And my answer has always been that my dream is to play football and business should be a back-up plan for me when I retire,”
A hamstring injury ruled out Ishmael Mushekwi from Caps United’s trip to Bulawayo where they face Bosso today.
“I would say everything happens for a reason because every time I got injured, something happened to propel my business and I think all this is connected because I have a personal relationship with God,” he said.
As he battles to write his own piece of history, young Ishmael faces a daunting task of filling the shoes of his elder brother Nyasha who helped Dalian Yifang secure a Premiership slot last season after netting 35 goals.
First, Ishmael has to impress Chitembwe who is expected to name his 30-man squad for the 2018 Castle Premier Soccer League before month end.
“I am waiting for the coach’s decision and I remain ready to follow his guidance.
‘I pray that I get the chance play in the top flight this year.”
