CAPS United president Farai Jere has ruled out raiding the transfer market during the mid-season window period and argued that the Green Machine have enough arsenal to launch a spirited campaign for the Premiership title.

Jere said they had done their homework before the start of the season when they brought in a number of new players.

It is against this background that CAPS United believe that even though a few players will leave for clubs outside the country, they will have enough depth to last the marathon and possibly end a 11-year drought for the championship they last won under Charles Mhlauri in 2005.

CAPS United have already released veteran defender Method Mwanjali, goalkeeper Chris Mverechena and Allan Gahadzikwa.

They could also lose midfielder Abbas Amidu who has just returned from trials in Germany with the former Black Leopards man linked with a move to Azam of Tanzania.

There are also some unconfirmed reports linking the duo of defenders Hardlife Zvirekwi and Stephen Makatuka with trials stints to as yet unnamed clubs in South Africa.

Jere said the departure of a few players would not affect the team as they had cover in almost every department.

“We are not buying any players. The players we bought in January are enough to cover us throughout the season.

“We had many players in each position and the team is good and balanced. We had thoroughly prepared at the start of the season such that even in the event of some departures it would not affect the team.

“We remain covered with players, who can help us challenge for the league title,” said Jere.

In January, the Green Machine acquired a number of players including midfielders Devon Chafa, Cabby Kamhapa, Tafadzwa Rusike, Amidu, Gahadzikwa, Archieford Gutu and Dennis Dauda. They also reunited with goalkeeper Edmore Sibanda and Ronald Pfumbidzai.

Coach Lloyd Chitembwe had a positive headache in the first half of the season struggling with which players to field in any particular game and keep all the players’ content with game time.

But the departure of some players appears to have been a blessing in disguise for the technical team as they were able to slot in Chafa and Sibanda who were not registered in January. The two have since been a revelation at the club in the few games they have been in action.

CAPS United are third on the log table with 29 points, a point behind leaders Highlanders who have a superior goal difference over second placed FC Platinum.
