AS CAPS United prepare to face Herentals this afternoon, they do so with renewed hope and a fresh face at the helm, but for one man, the club’s dramatic shake up has left more pain than promise.
Following one of their worst starts in nearly a decade, the Green Machine hit the reset button last week, axing their entire technical team, while reassigning long serving head coach Lloyd Chitembwe to the role of technical director.
Into the hot seat stepped former club midfielder Ian Bakala, assisted by ex-Shabanie Mine gaffer Alexio Sigion.
Bakala’s appointment signals a new direction, but for recently dismissed assistant coach Farai Tawachera, the shift has brought only heartbreak and hardship.
The Bulawayo based coach, who joined the club just two months ago, finds himself stranded in the capital, jobless, frustrated, and still chasing money he says the club owes him. Tawachera was part of the coaching team brought in under Chitembwe’s reign earlier this year, but was shown the door alongside colleagues like Tonderai Marume in last week’s purge.
The former Arenel Movers tactician now remains in Harare, unable to return home due to unpaid dues.
“The coach is stuck,” a source close to the matter revealed. They haven’t paid him a cent up to now. On his deal, there was no signing-on fee, but CAPS agreed to pay relocation fees upon his arrival. That never happened.”
According to the contract, Tawachera was supposed to receive a monthly salary by the 25th of each month, a fuel allocation every Monday, and winning bonuses every Tuesday following matches. But after nearly three months with the club, not one of these obligations has been fulfilled.
“This is frustrating to say the least,” Tawachera told Zimpapers Sports Hub.
“They had promised payment this week, and I am still waiting.”
CAPS United chief executive Morton Dodzo confirmed the club is yet to pay some members of the dismissed technical team, but efforts are being made to rectify the situation.
