Caps United fans celebrated their victory over Cranborne Bullets as if they had won the Castle Lager Premiership football title or a major trophy at Vengere yesterday.
The match was a low key affair which lacked ingredients of a top-flight league encounter as both team failed to play a meaningful game
CAPS United got their goal in the 80th minute when Emmanuel Mandiranga’s flashing header beat Herbert Rusawo, in goals for the home side.
CAPS United started the match offensively and won three corner kicks inside first five minutes before fizzling out.
Their execution in the final third was poor.
Bullets were forced to substitute goalkeeper Elisha Nechiturike after he spilled a Valentine Musarurwa shot and clashed with William Manondo who wanted to capitalise on the spill. The CAPS United leading marksman had a quite afternoon.
In the second half, both teams continued to pump long balls upfront and they appeared content with a draw as they slowed down the tempo of the match.
Cranborne Bullets’ Jarisson Selemani made some fine runs on the left flank but his crosses were poor. Bullets’ team was made of youngsters as they had a number of injuries and suspensions.
With the match heading for what would be a fair draw, 10 minutes from time Musarurwa delivered a perfect cross and an umarked Mandiranga rose and directed his header to the far post, beating Rusawo.
Bullets coach Nesbert ”Yabo” Saruchera bemoaned inexperience in his side which he said cost them.
”Today we fielded a number of youngsters due to injuries and suspensions. They are still learning the ropes. We conceded a soft goal after holding on for the better part of the game. We are going back to the drawing board,” he said.
CAPS United coach Lloyd Chitembwe was satisfied with his team’s overall performance.
“It was a decent match, the application was good, especially on the mental side.These games are won by making sure you have cool heads. The boys today applied themselves mentally well,” said Chitembwe.
