CAPS United will fight for a respectable finish when they face How Mine in a Castle Lager Premiership match at the National Sports Stadium this afternoon. The Harare giants are bubbling with confidence after they managed to progress to the semi-finals of the Easycall Cup in their last game. The Green Machine have transformed since bringing back Lloyd Chitembwe.
CAPS United were the most comprehensive winners in the quarter-finals of the Easycall Cup and today they will be looking to build on that fine showing they exhibited against Hwange at the same venue last Saturday. The first league meeting between the two sides this year was aborted with How Mine being awarded the points for a walkover.
CAPS United had travelled to Bulawayo, but their players did not take to the pitch at Luveve in protest over unpaid dues. Makepekepe are now poised to make a strong finish to a campaign that endured a false start.
Rejuvenated midfielder Joel Ngodzo is expected to lead the CAPS United charge and if his performance against Hwange is anything to go by, then the former Zimbabwe youth international could be back to the kind of form that made him a prized possession at Highlanders before FC Platinum flexed their financial muscle to lure him to Mandava.
The midfielder has since transformed and at CAPS United he is playing great football once again and it was clear at the weekend as he played a key role as the Green Machine knocked out Hwange with 3-1 win .
Ngodzo scored a good goal and also set up Hardlife Zvirekwi for the third goal to cap a fine performance which saw off the coalminers. How Mine on the other end are not yet free from the relegation puzzle with three games to go and they are sitting on 34 points where they are tied with ZPC Kariba.
The gold miners are still in with a chance of surviving as they need to win a single match despite what will happen to Tsholotsho. It is How Mine’s second assignment in Harare inside four days after they played Dynamos in the Easycall Cup at Rufaro on Sunday where Ocean Mushure’s solitary strike sent them tumbling out of the competition.
The team which, was very active at the start of the season has not lived up to expectations despite having several seasoned players. Today’s game presents former CAPS United captain Tapiwa Khumbuyani, now at How Mine, with an chance to face his former teammates.
