‘CAPS Utd to turn season around’

CAPS United director Farai Jere believes there is still time for the club to turn its fortunes around and be competitive for the remainder of the season.

After match day 21 in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, the club is in position 13 with 24 points. They are four points above TelOne who are in the relegation zone.

Jere says although the club faced serious financial constraints in the past, they are already on the right trajectory to glory as their woes are now water under the bridge.

He also pointed out that CAPS United remains the most successful side of the traditional giants in the last eight years on the local scene and the only club to have reached the CAF group stages during the same period.

“This season alone there are about 13 league games still to be played in the league and cup games too. So it would be unjust to say the club has failed,” he said.

“In the last eight years, among the traditional giants, we have generally fared well.  We won the league title and reached the group stage of the CAF Champions League, a thing just many dream of.

“It’s just that people are quick to forget, but we have been doing well until the point the team faced serious financial challenges.

“Slowly we managed to crawl out of that situation and everything is returning to normalcy.

“So many people want to point out our problems to coach Lloyd. But he is a man doing a lot of immense work at the club. He is a precious jewel that needs to be kept well.”

Jere said they are doing everything to give solutions to their on-field problems.

“As a club, we have dominated most of our games and end up conceding soft goals due to individual errors. We felt that we needed a striker and the club tied the top Cameroonian striker, who we hope will ease the scoring burden on William Manondo.

“Except for a few things that need to be looked into, there are things that happen behind the scenes that also affect the game and as a club, we are also probing into that. All being said, as a club, we are doing well, and will be well,” he said.
