A BULAWAYO man’s car import dream turned into a nightmare when he was robbed of US$1 000 by a four-man gang.

Tinotenda Mutata was seated in a car with his friend Leon Mukuruva at an apartment near the corner of Connaught Avenue and George Silundika Street. Leon was just about to hand over US$1 000 for the facilitation of a car import from Tanzania when chaos struck.

Out of nowhere, a gang of four men swooped in and hijacked their car.
“They ordered the two to move to the passenger’s side while two of the robbers jumped in the back seat. One of them slid into the driver’s seat and another took the front passenger spot,” said a source close to the incident.

With the victims now hostages in their own vehicle, the robbers sped off and headed to North End suburb, where they parked near Scotty Avenue.

“One of the robbers searched Leon and took the US$1 000. They then turned to Tinotenda and took US$150 and his cellphone. After that, they jumped out and vanished into thin air,” the source added.

The shaken victims wasted no time and reported the incident at Bulawayo Central Police Station.
Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu confirmed the robbery.

“I confirm that a man was robbed of US$1 000 while his friend lost US$150 and a cellphone. The four suspects are still at large and investigations are ongoing,” she said.

She urged the public to come forward with any information.
“The suspects live among us. Anyone who knows something should alert the nearest police station. Together, we can stop these criminals,” she said.
