FORMER ZIFA boss Trevor Carelse-Juul has until tomorrow to keep alive his hopes of challenging for the association’s presidency at polls set for next month.
The South Africa-based businessman’s candidature was not cleared by the ZIFA Electoral Committee who gave his representatives until tomorrow to satisfy certain requirements.
Carelse-Juul did not satisfy the ZIFA Electoral Committee that he has been resident in this country for the past five years.
Although his handlers provided documents to show that owns properties in this country, the ZIFA Electoral Committee felt that they should prove that he has, indeed, been resident in Zimbabwe in the past five years.
The other candidates – Philip Chiyangwa, and Leslie Gwindi – were cleared to contest the polls.
“The committee sat yesterday (Saturday) and looked at all the papers submitted but there were some candidates who did not submit all the information and were given up to Tuesday,” said ZIFA spokesman Xolisani Gwesela.
“And in vetting these candidates the committee was guided by the ZIFA electoral code and the vetting process was in conformity with the ZIFA constitution.
“The committee will sit on the 13th of November and deliberate on those issues and the final list will be released on November 15. And this is in accordance or adherence of the election roadmap.”
