Caritas Zimbabwe recently held a clean-up campaign in Nyanga meant to tide up the resort town.
Caritas, a development and relief arm of the Roman Catholic Church is currently carrying out a sanitation project in the town which is meant to improve sewerage reticulation. Speaking during the clean-up campaigns which were held in wards 29 and 31 on Saturday, Caritas programmes manager, Mr Nhamo Hondoyemoto, said they were determined to serve Nyanga. “This year is the implementation year which will see the repair of sewage ponds, ablution blocs, and water tanks in public places. We will also hand over a refuse truck to the council in July,” he said.
Asked on the sustainability of the project after their exit in December 2016, Mr Nhamoyemoto said: “We are working closely with the council, Ministry of Health and the residents. This collaborative effort is to make sure that these centres will push for sanitation even after our exit. “More so, we have 20 community animators (leaders of health clubs) with about 30 members each. These people were trained and they are therefore imparting the knowledge to their members and the community at large. They are carrying out their work with great enthusiasm.” Council chairman Mr Moses Gutu commented Caritas initiative.
