CARJACKER RUNS OVER TAXI DRIVER: Bulawayo man caged for brutal Honda Fit hijack

B-Metro Reporter

A BULAWAYO thug who violently carjacked and ran over a taxi driver has been slapped with a seven-year jail term after being convicted at the Bulawayo Regional Court.

Alexandra Ngwenya (28) was sentenced to nine years in prison, with two years suspended, for the brazen attack that left the victim seriously injured.

The horror unfolded on 13 November 2024. Taxi driver Charlton Sibanda (31) parked his black Honda Fit outside his Selborne Brooke home.

Suddenly, three men pounced. One pointed a pistol at Sibanda while the others wrestled him to the ground, snatching his car keys before speeding off.

In their ruthless escape, they ran over Sibanda, shattering his right leg. Inside the stolen car was a sling bag holding US$1 000 cash.

The vehicle, valued at US$6 500, was later found abandoned near Food for Less Shops in Emganwini, and US$5 500 of the stolen property was recovered.

Ngwenya was nailed through police investigations, but his two accomplices are still at large.

The National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) condemned the brutal crime.
“Violent crimes have no place in our society. Those who commit such acts will face the full wrath of the law,” the NPAZ said in a statement.
