LOCAL comedian Carl Joshua Ncube has been invited to perform at this year’s Comedy Central International Comedy Festival in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The comedy festival, being held in conjunction with Savanna Premium Cider, will run from November 16 to December 5 with performances from various well-known comedians from Africa including South Africa’s celebrated comedian Trevor Noah, Roastmaster, General Jeff Ross, Goliath & Goliath, Casper de Vries and Schalk Bezuindhout.
Carl will perform at the best of Africa gala alongside Nigeria’s Basketmouth, Salvador and Churchill on December 5 at the Silverstar Casino.
Organisers of the festival said the event would combine spectacular gala concerts at The Globe with more intimate Late Night Comedy shows and side-splitting Open Mic sessions at Parker’s Comedy Club, themed specials, late-night sketch shows, spontaneous street theatre and Improv comedy “happenings” at other venues around Silverstar.
Tickets for the Comedy Central International Comedy Festival are already on sale at Computicket ranging from R120 to R650.
An elated Ncube, who was recently dealt a major blow after his wife had a miscarriage, said he was elated to be taking part at the prestigious comedy gathering.
“If there’s anything I’ve always wanted to be on, it’s Comedy Central. I’m honoured to be part of such an awesome set of comedians that I’ve learnt so much from in my career,” said Ncube.
Noah, who is now based in America where he is hosting the Daily Show, said: “It’s always so much fun performing with these amazing comedians and Comedy Central has done an amazing job of putting on this world-class festival.”
Designed to empower and uplift South African comedy and comedians, the Comedy Central International Comedy Festival will also include a series of workshops and master-classes by comedians, promoters and specialists, helping comedians to hone and develop their craft.
