RENOWNED Zimbabwean comedian, Carl Joshua Ncube is set to launch a first ever comedy club at Rainbow Towers Hotel in Harare.
Ncube, fresh from his Ivory Coast performance announced on Facebook that the hotel would be launching the first Carl Joshua Ncube comedy club. “Carl has just returned from his maiden performance in a French speaking country, where he impressed in Ivory Coast with a sort of English sort of FRENCH performance.
“He is excited about the opportunities and exposure that came from his performance at Comedy Centrals’ International Comedy Festival, which prompted the comedian to act aggressively on creating sustainable comedy spaces in Zimbabwe for both local and international comedians,” read the statement.
The new comedy club, according to Carl is a small space with big laughs.
The comedy club will be launched in April. Ncube was recently involved in a spat with flamboyant businessman and socialite Sir Wicknell, where Ncube promised to “roast” him. All this comes from an attack from Sir Wicknell who said he could fill a theatre by paying fans as compared to Ncube.
Ncube thus posted a picture on his Facebook with the caption:
How many likes and how many shares to get Sir Wicknell Chivayo to agree to do a roast??????
Ncube was born in 1979 in Bulawayo to Charles Palmer Ncube and Miriam Nyemba. He grew up with his mother in Marondera, after his parents divorced. He grew up in a typical nomadic fashion as he relocated from one neighbourhood to another in Harare and Bulawayo.
He has six siblings and these are Cedric, Shallen, Sarlos, Castro Chikomborero, and Takawira. Ncube got married to Nelsy Mugadza in 2012 and their colourful wedding ceremony took place on an Island called Coco Cay in the Bahamas.
Carl broke into the Zimbabwean comedy scene with his debut one-man show Carl Joshua Ncube’s BIG ANNOUNCEMENT, setting him up as arguably the best Zimbabwean standup comedians.
He was however, able to realise a lot of groundbreaking achievements as a result of his move to South Africa.
Renowned South African comedy club, Parkers Comedy and Jive gave Ncube a slot to perform at their popular club at which he rubbed shoulders with some of South Africa’s comedy elites such as Kediboni Mulaudzi.
Ncube has performed in South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria and USA. Ncube was part of a 37-member list of comedians drawn from all over the African continent to perform in Johannesburg in 2011. The list included renowned comedians such as Basketmouth from Nigeria, Ndumiso Lindi and Kagiso Ladeba.
