RAPID Response Teams will from now on be provided with allowances and vehicles to help them carry out their duties efficiently, while social workers providing Covid-19 frontline duties will now also get allowances similar to those enjoyed by health workers, Government has said.
The resolutions were part of a raft of measures announced after a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday, as the country continues to grapple with the global epidemic.
As of last night, the number of confirmed local Covid-19 cases has increased to 1 787 with Bulawayo (919), Harare (645) and Gweru (169) designated as the three hotspots.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Senator Monica Mutsvangwa said to enable the Rapid Response Teams to carry out their duties efficiently, they will be getting allowances and vehicles.
“The Rapid Response Teams will be provided with the vehicles and allowances necessary to enable them to carry out their duties efficiently. Social workers and other categories of staff providing documented Covid-19 frontline services at quarantine centres, public institutions and other areas will receive the same allowances as those given to health workers,” she said.
In addition, all communication related to Covid-19 will now only be done through the Secretary for Health and Child Care.
“Initial Official Communication of Covid-19 results shall be made by the Secretary for Health and Child Care and appropriate action will be taken against those who violate this standing directive,” she said.
