AFTER months of speculation, South African actress Boity Thulo and rapper Cassper Nyovest (real name Refiloe Phoolo) have confirmed that they are indeed a couple.
Although the pair denied rumours of their love affair in the past weeks, Nyovest, who has not been one to keep his love life behind closed doors, revealed his love for Boity in an exclusive interview with Drum magazine.
The artiste is said to have surprised Boity on July 1 on the set of her new campaign for Legit, which she was shooting at Grootvlei in Mpumalanga, South Africa. He asked her to officially be his girlfriend, which the weekly magazine describes as him “popping the question.”
When Nyovest — a multi-award winning hip hop star, rapped in his hit single Phumakim, “I only f*ck with women that’s as famous as me . . .” he certainly was not joking as Boity — a popular TV presenter, is equally famous as him.
Some, however, believe that the proposal was a carefully planned publicity stunt as the whole event was interestingly captured on camera with an informant “dishing the details”.
But the two socialites insist they are head over heels in love. Drum reported that the two had dated at least twice in the past and broke up on both occasions, but even after six years apart, they were still linked to each other regularly. The two yesterday took to social media to profess their love for each other.
“I just want the world to know how much I’m madly in love with her!!! I can’t hold back!!! She is perfection!!!,” posted Nyovest on his Facebook account.
“The truth is ever since we broke up, I never got over her. I’d literally think of her every day. It’s always been my dream to get her back and yeah, I followed my dream and heart.”
Boity said: “I don’t want to do this with anyone ever again. This is it. I’m absolutely in love.”
It remains to be seen if Nyovest will compose a song for Boity like he did when he dated Amanda du Pont.
“If she ain’t no Amanda du Pont she ain’t tailored for me,” rapped Nyovest about his then relationship with the actress.
He went public with his love affair with du Pont, a Skeem Saam actress, at the Channel O Music awards in 2014, where the pair locked lips on stage and later posted a series of images on social media.
In true theatrical style, he revealed news of the pair’s breakup by changing his lyrics to: “Even Amanda du Point wasn’t tailored for me, now I really f*ck with women as famous as me,” during his performance at the Metro FM music awards earlier this year.
Nyovest and Thulo dated in the past when Thulo was still at university, before Nyovest got his big break in showbiz.
All eyes are now on the couple as people wait to see how their publicity stunt will play out.
