With a few days left before the BET Awards’ ceremony, organisers have introduced a new fan-voted category — the Viewer’s Choice Best New International Artiste where leading rap artiste — Cassper Nyovest has been nominated. Nyovest is up against Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Mz Vee (Ghana) George The Poet (UK), MIC Lowry (UK) and Novelist (UK).
The awards, taking place on June 28 at the Nokia Theatre LA in Los Angeles will premiere across Africa on BET channels (DStv channel 129 and 135) on June 30 at 8:10PM. They will celebrate rising stars from across the channel’s international footprint.
Voting began this week and will close on June 27. To vote, fans have to log onto the BET website, www.BET.com/ViewersChoiceIntl to cast their vote or alternatively use social media networking site — Instagram @BET_Africa and use the hashtag #ipick.
Nyovest, Kenzo and Mz Vee join other top African artistes Aka (South Africa), The Soil (South Africa), Wizkid (Nigeria), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Sarkodie (Ghana), Stonebwoy (Ghana), Fally Ipupa (Democratic Republic of Congo) and Sauti Sol (Kenya) who have been nominated for the Best International Act: Africa category.
Commenting on the nomination, Nyovest posted on his Twitter handle: “Wow!! We got a BET nomination??? That’s mad crazy!!! Like I always say!! God is good!!! All the time!!! I’m head over heels, wow!!!”
“Yo guys, we need to win this!! We need to bring it home. #TeamNyovest.”
Talented actors, comedic geniuses and on-screen co-stars Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross will host this year’s BET awards which recognise artistes, entertainers, and athletes across 20 categories.
America’s Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj lead the BET Awards nominees with an impressive six nominations. Beyoncé and Lil Wayne round it out with four nominations each. Other nominees include Tinashe, Ciara, Jhene Aiko, Trey Songz, Usher, Rich Gang, Kendrick Lamar, Wale, Dej Loaf, Iggy Azalea, Big Sean, Common, Sam Smith and Bobby Shmurda.
