CBC reach national volleyball tourney quarter finals

CHRISTIAN Brothers College (CBC) Under-17 volleyball team was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Volleyball National Championships which were held in Mazowe over the weekend.

This was the first time that CBC participated at such a level in volleyball and managed to finish in eighth place on their debut. They lost their quarter-final encounter to hosts, Mazowe High School.

Prior to the quarter-finals defeat at the hands of Mazowe High School, CBC played two matches, winning one and losing one and the loss against the hosts was their second in three games. CBC opened their account with a 2-0 win over Phakamani High School before going on to suffer a similar defeat against Manunure High School.

The CBC team was representing Bulawayo and one of their players, Shingirai Sachirera managed to scoop an individual accolade. Sachirera was named the best receiver of the tournament. The volleyball team was not the only CBC side that was on the road over the weekend, their hockey teams travelled to Gweru.

The senior teams travelled to Gweru and played four games at Midlands Christian College (MCC). The first team played two matches, losing 3-0 against Hippo Valley before going on to win 1-0 against Mufakose High School.

Their second team also played two games, winning one while one was a stalemate. They registered a 1-0 win over Kyle College and drew 2-2 against Hippo Valley. – @brandon_malvin
