The Dominican Convent High School, in partnership with CBZ Bank, has launched the 2025 CBZ Schools Debate Tournament, a national platform aimed at shaping Zimbabwe’s education through critical thinking and public speaking.

The head of Dominican Convent High School, Sister Kudzai Mutsure, said that the tournament is a national educational empowerment initiative.

“It is with great pride and excitement that I stand before you today to officially launch the 2025 edition of the CBZ Schools Debate Tournament, an event that continues to grow in stature, meaning, and impact, not only for our students at Dominican Convent High School but for the entire country,” she said.

“In line with our joint commitment to educational equity and national empowerment, we introduced a fully funded pre-tournament workshop, targeting schools across the nation that may not have previously had exposure to the World Schools Debating Championships model we employ.”

CBZ Group chief of marketing and customer experience, Mrs Matilda Nyathi, said that, as a management institution, their vision is to empower communities and the country.

“The investment of around $50 000 is more than just a sponsorship; it’s a deliberate strategic commitment to shaping our country’s future through critical thinking, constructive debate, and leadership.

“It’s actually a stage for ideas. It’s a platform for shaping character, and a reminder that our leaders are not just leaders of tomorrow, they’re actually leaders of today. We are proud to be part of this journey, and we look forward to welcoming our participants, coaches, and teachers,” she said.

“This tournament brings together schools from across the country. We are moving forward to having all school-based participants participate, from primary schools to high schools and beyond.”
