Harare Central Hospital yesterday received 10 wheelchairs and an equal number of stretcher beds worth $15 000 from CBZ Holdings. These will be used in the casualty ward to help accident victims. Harare Central Hospital chief executive officer Ms Peggy Zvavamwe said they were working hard towards improving health delivery standards at the hospital. “The hospital is striving for quality.
“This noble act by CBZ Holdings will contribute immensely towards the infrastructural development of the hospital. “The partitioning of maternity admissions that we want to undertake will create an appealing environment to our patients,” she said. Ms Zvavamwe said the water situation at the hospital was improving and they were looking forward to the commissioning of a water reservoir with a holding capacity of 2, 5 million litres before year end.
Speaking on behalf of CBZ Holdings CEO Mr Never Nyemudzo, the head of marketing and corporate affairs, Dr Eldrette Shereni, said the bank sourced the equipment as part of efforts to ensure the successful running of the hospital. “As CBZ, we strongly believe in giving back to the communities we operate in and extending our assistance to such noble causes.
“We value the relationship we have built with the hospital over the years and we are indeed committed to remain your partners for success,” Mr Nyemudzo said. The hospital faces financial challenges and of late aborted some surgical operations in its renal, maternity, and paediatric sections as a result. Most of the money the hospital receives is gobbled by vulnerable groups exempted from paying hospital fees such as children under five, the elderly over 60 years and those who need psychiatric care.
