CBZ Holdings, through its philanthropic arm, the CBZ Foundation, has committed up to US$50 000 in immediate financial assistance to families affected by the Lake Kariba ferry tragedy that occurred on August 11, 2026.

The death toll from the Lake Kariba ferry accident has reached 97, while 77 survived the disaster.

The financial relief package will see each affected family receiving US$300 to help meet immediate needs, including support for survivors and families who lost their loved ones in the tragedy.

The intervention comes as affected families and communities continue to grapple with the loss and disruption caused by the incident, which has had a far-reaching impact across the country.

CBZ Holdings group chief executive officer Mr Lawrence Nyazema, said the financial assistance was intended to provide some relief to families facing immediate financial pressures following the tragedy.

“Our hearts go out to all the families affected by this devastating tragedy. While no financial assistance can take away the pain of loss, we hope this support will help ease some of the immediate burdens faced by families at this difficult time,” Nyazema said.

He added: “As CBZ, we stand with them and with Zimbabwe as we mourn and support one another.”

The intervention underscores the growing role of corporate social investment in providing emergency assistance to communities affected by disasters, particularly where families face unexpected financial pressures in the aftermath of a tragedy.

For CBZ, the support forms part of the CBZ Foundation’s broader philanthropic mandate of responding to critical social needs and supporting vulnerable communities.
