CBZ Schools Debate takes new dimension

The CBZ Schools Debate has taken a whole new dimension by incorporating secondary schools. The previous edition was only at primary school level.

The stage is set for pupils from both primary and secondary schools to show their debate prowess and represent their territories in an event that is sponsored by CBZ Holdings and hosted by the Institute of African Knowledge.

The prize money is a total of RTGS$110 000 with RTGS$60 000 for the secondary level and RTGS$50 000 for the primary level. After St. Joseph Makoni Primary School in Rusape walked away with the grand prize last year, students vowed to go the extra mile this year in a bid to give the defending champions a run for their money.

Speaking at the last launch of the CBZ Schools Debate, guest of honour Primary and Secondary Education Minister Paul Mavima applauded the initiative as he said it breathes vibrancy and life into the education sector. “I commend non–State actors like CBZ Holdings and Institute of African Knowledge who team up to bring vibrancy to the education process by deploying vast resources without motivation of profit,” he said.

The initiative is driven by the need to groom students into international speakers, instilling confidence and speaking techniques into students at a young age whilst investing in the education system.
