The selection of CBZ Bank to participate in Government’s initiated Command Agriculture programme was above board since it followed all procedural requirements that were required for any financial institution to come on board, legislators have heard.

CBZ Agro-Yield managing director, Mr Walter Chigodora said they wrote to the Government expressing interest to participate in Command Agriculture after the pronouncement inviting those keen to participate in the scheme.

Mr Chigodora said this, this afternoon while giving oral evidence before Parliament’s portfolio committee on Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Resettlement.

The committee chaired by Gokwe Nembudziya Cde Justice Mayor Wadyajena (Zanu-PF) wanted to know how Command Agriculture was financed and how participating financial institutions were selected.

“We applied to participate for Command Agriculture after Government through its monetary policy statements invited those willing to participate,” said Mr Chidhakwa.

He was accompanied by Permanent Secretary for Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Resettlement Dr John Bhasera.
