All-male group CCAP Voice of Mbare last Friday launched their Live DVD titled “Kune Musha” at Eastgate Ster-Kinekor . The DVD (Season 1) live recording was done at 7Arts Theatre in Avondale in June and had its official debut screening at the launch. The 12-track DVD features Malawian musician Skeffa Chimoto who has become a popular guest for CCAP Voice of Mbare.

The quality of the DVD shows the prowess of producer MacDonald “MacDee” Chidavaenzi. MacDee also features on the DVD as lead singer of the song “Masimba Ndeenyu” that he also composed and arranged. Speaking at the launch, MacDee praised CCAP Voice of Mbare for standing firm for so many years.

“CCAP Voice of Mbare is very special to me. The group was formed in 1985, which was the year I was born. I grew up listening to their songs but I did not know I would work with them one day,” said MacDee. “They told me to write one song for them and I came up with ‘Masimba Ndeenyu’. When I gave them the composition they said I should do the lead vocals and that is how I ended up on stage with the group.

“They maintain their original CCAP flair and we have added a few contemporary styles to come up with this exciting product.” The DVD was produced at Eternity Productions and has songs like “Fambai Neni”, “Muli Mpavhu”, “Upenyu”, “Mwari Baba” and “Nditungamirei”.

Guest of honour at the event, AFM vice-president Pastor Cosam Chiyangwa said it was encouraging to see an all-male ensemble doing gospel music at that level. “It is not common to see men having a church music group as big as CCAP Voice of Mbare and I encourage them to continue with the good work. Congratulations for the DVD launch,” he said.

Speaking after the event, CCAP Voice of Mbare Chairman William Mikaye said they were honoured to have many musicians and pastors gracing the event. “It was a good event and we want to thank all those that came for gracing this event. We feel humbled by the support and we thank God for taking us this far,” said Mikaye.

Musicians that graced the launch include Pastor Charles Charamba and Mai Charamba, Reverend Toggy Chivaviro, Pastor G, Mupostori Wency and Joseph Madziyire among others.
