NEWLY-elected Harare deputy mayor Kudzai Kadzombe has appeared in court on allegations of assaulting a voter on the morning of Election Day in Marlborough.

Yesterday, she appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi on charges of assault and was remanded out of custody to October 2.

The State alleges that on August 23, at around 10.30am, Mr Saeed Musaengana was walking on a path leading to a polling station so he could vote.

However, two cars, a silver Toyota Fortuner and a white commuter omnibus, allegedly drove up and stopped before Mr Musaengana.

Several people came out of the two cars and one man approached Mr Musaengana, allegedly to provoke him, but he was restrained by others. Kadzombe allegedly took advantage of that, approached Mr Musaengana and grabbed him by the neck. The court heard that she allegedly continued holding him by the back of his neck.

When Kadzombe eventually stopped, Mr Musaengana went to ZRP Marlborough to file a report.
