CCC politician and Glen View North National Assembly Member Happymore Chidziva has been arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.
Chidziva had reportedly been on the run for a couple of weeks with police keen to interview him in connection with the report. Chidziva surrendered himself to the police yesterday while in the company of his lawyer and is expected to appear in court today.
National police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the legislator’s arrest.
“We confirm that Happymore Chidziva has been arrested and is currently in police custody as investigations continue. He will appear in court tomorrow,” he said.
His surrender came after police announced early this month that they had launched a manhunt for Chidziva in connection with an allegation of rape.
Said Comm Nyathi recently: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that a report of rape allegations against Happymore Chidziva (MP Glen View North) has been made by a complainant and her family at Harare Central Police Station.”
The family had filed a missing person report at Budiriro Police Station with Chidziva accused of hiding her.
