THE Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has urged Zimbabweans, particularly the youth, to reject calls for violent demonstrations and stayaways on July 31 by some rogue elements and social media activists, saying dialogue and peaceful engagement remain the most effective means of resolving national challenges.
In a statement, the party’s interim national youth chairperson, Mr Tichaona Mungwariri, called on young people to channel their energies towards nation-building instead of participating in activities that could undermine peace, stability and economic progress.
He warned that violence, destruction of property and stayaways would not address the country’s challenges but would instead have far-reaching negative consequences for ordinary citizens.
“The youth of Zimbabwe must reject any path that leads to confrontation, lawlessness or instability. Such actions have the potential to reverse our national progress, weaken our economy, discourage investment and ultimately hurt the very citizens they seek to assist.
“Zimbabwe cannot afford to be pushed backwards into the Stone Age through unnecessary hostilities and conflict,” he said.
Mr Mungwariri said Zimbabwe’s history had demonstrated that lasting political solutions were achieved through dialogue and engagement rather than confrontation.
He cited the 1979 Lancaster House negotiations, which paved the way for the country’s independence in 1980, the 1987 Unity Accord between ZANU and ZAPU, and the 2008 Global Political Agreement as examples of dialogue producing peace, stability and national cohesion.
The future of Zimbabwe belongs to all of us. Our political differences should never make us enemies. We are one people with one nation to build,” he said.
“We therefore urge all young Zimbabweans to exercise restraint, remain peaceful and avoid participating in acts of violence or destruction. Let us instead channel our energy towards meaningful dialogue, democratic participation and nation-building.”
Mr Mungwariri said the CCC, under the leadership of Senator Sengezo Tshabangu, remained committed to constitutionalism, constructive engagement and the pursuit of practical solutions to the country’s challenges.
He urged Zimbabweans to place national interests above political differences, saying unity, peace and dialogue were essential to securing a stable and prosperous future for the country.
